Tadcaster has a small, friendly Community Speedwatch group who are all trained volunteers and carry out speed checks on behalf of North Yorkshire Police across several locations in Tadcaster.

These locations are risk-assessed by North Yorkshire Police, who provide the exact locations and all equipment including a radar gun, hi-visibility vests and signs.

During the speed checks every car is checked and those that are travelling in excess of the speed limit have their details recorded in line with GDPR regulations, and these details are passed onto North Yorkshire Police who will write to the registered owners. There are no fines or points that are given, instead the aim of Speedwatch is to increase driver awareness and encourage drivers to follow the speed limit.
