Tadcaster Town Council has two Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) which are to be located around the town on an approximately three-monthly basis.
The Council has had a Vehicle Activated Sign Installation Agreement drawn up between North Yorkshire Council and Tadcaster Town Council which allows the signs to be moved to various agreed locations around the town. During the Term of the Agreement the Equipment cannot be a permanent fixture and must be rotated as per Deployment Schedule, dates are subject to change.
Back in March 2019, to address local needs, the Executive of the Council approved a protocol for communities to purchase and maintain lightweight/portable vehicle activated signs (VAS) on the network. The Temporary VAS Protocol states that any sign purchased by a local community MUST not be fixed in one position and MUST be rotated on the same post or redeployed to a different post regularly. The timescales are determined by the community. The VAS remains the property of the community and although each site can be permanent, the VAS MUST be deployed on a temporary basis between sites to achieve the most impact on motorists. Communities have to sign a legal agreement to participate and stipulate their rotation periods.
North Yorkshire Council only fund and install permanent (fixed) VAS to address sites with a speed related personal injury collision history as a last resort and only where it is absolutely essential to address a collision pattern.
VAS data is collated and analysed by the Council and Police on a regular basis, this is then shared on a three-monthly basis and copies of Data Reports can be found by clicking on the location below:
